What I Treat

I have years of experience helping people with a variety of concerns and am well-equipped to be of assistance to people with a range of problems.  Some examples are anxiety, depression, and anger.

I have particular expertise helping people with:
  • Substance use concerns.
  • LGBTQ+ concerns.
  • Low self-esteem.
  • Interpersonal and relationship difficulties.
  • Religious and cultural concerns.

I also provide therapy to couples and families who would like to improve their functioning, better manage conflicts, and increase relationship satisfaction.

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is integrative in nature, due to my training in both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral modalities. I combine the insight-oriented and exploratory elements of psychodynamic psychotherapy with the behavior change-oriented components of cognitive-behavioral treatment to deliver therapy that is uniquely tailored to each individual.

From a psychodynamic perspective, an important part of therapy involves learning about yourself. This almost always entails discovering thoughts, feelings, and patterns of which you were previously unaware. Some of these insights may be pleasant and expected, while others may be surprising and uncomfortable. From a cognitive-behavioral perspective, I see learning skills, developing strategies, and devising action plans as important parts of effective treatment. Because the journey of therapy is not easy, we traverse it together.  I am there to guide and support you.

I implement a harm reduction approach to helping people with substance use difficulties.  This means that I take a highly individualized strategy to assist you with your concerns related to substance use.  My goal is to help you develop the optimal relationship with and use of substances given you and your circumstance. Some people choose to pursue abstinence from one or more substances, while others prefer to moderate their use.  I highly value your autonomy and empower you to choose your goals for therapy. Any goal that makes you safer is welcome!
